What can I say? The last month has been quite busy! I had originally intended to blog every week, but now it looks like things might be a little busier than expected! I have a job now--PRAISE THE LORD!--and my parents say I'll be going back to school this semester! My dad is still looking for a job, however, and prayers would be greatly coveted for him. I don't know how my parents are going to pay for three Christian educations at once, but I suppose they are trusting the Lord for it all!
I've been able to have many opportunities in church for ministry, and these upcoming weeks will hold even more opportunity (VBS and teen rally). I am continuing to write music, though nothing new has been finished yet. On a side note, am I the only person who gets inspired in inopportune places? Like the shower--I get an idea right as I step in and have to remember it until I get out and find paper! let me know your thoughts on the matter in the comments. :) Unfortunately, all these ideas I get seem to grind to a halt after the first verse or stanza, so I have about 4 or 5 half-baked ideas sitting on the back burner while I work on another. (Sorry about the food allusion--my mom's making lunch!) Oh well, hopefully I'll get better!
Since my last blog I underwent another oral surgery to clear out an infection that had developed after the original stitches were removed. That has healed, and all is well again. I'm scheduled for an orthodontic checkup soon, so hopefully he'll tell me things are almost done. Speaking of checkups: our Sunday school lesson this morning concerned our spiritual condition (real original, Dave, I know) and how often we look at ourselves and compare ourselves to God's standard--in essence, how often we checkup on our lives. I thought this was a great message, because what is the time that we usually examine or get examined? When there's a problem! But we were challenged to look at our lives in light of God's word even when everything seems to be going great. Perhaps we have a humility problem; perhaps we are trying to lead when in reality we need to be the servant (morning service's message). Maybe it's a sin that we don't realize is a sin, but when we look at the Bible, we see it contradicts God's nature. Whatever it is, sometimes we just don't see it, and that is why we need to get a "checkup" more than just when we find outselves in a foxhole :-/
That's all for today--if you have questions, ask in the comments and I comment back!

Of stitches, sermons, spackle, and spaezle
What a title, huh!? A lot has been going on lately and I thought I'd catch up on my blogging. Last week, as you can read in earlier posts, I underwent oral surgery, and all is well. Things are healing, and I've already had a few stitches fall out. I've not had too much pain, thank the Lord. Among other things, I am working on a message for Sunday night. Pastor has planned for us college & career people (actually there are only 3 active members including myself!) to take over the evening service. Since I am the only willing male in the crowd I have been chosen to preach! This should be quite the experience in light of the fact that it shall be my first time in public! I have decided to preach off of David's Psalm 42:11 and have the theme of "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus." I will also be including references to Job and Peter. Please pray for me (those of you who actually follow this blog!) as I endeavor to minister God's word the the congregation.
Well, we also have the task of redoing my sisters' room. As of now, my mother has just finished spackling the divots and dents in the wall, and now we have to sand, prime, and paint. It looks as if the colors will be light blue, light green, and brown. Have you noticed how popular those colors are lately? I have been involved in 2 weddings using at least 2 of those colors this summer!
Some of you may be wondering what exactly "spaezle" is. Actually, the correct spelling is "spƤzle," and it is pronounced SHPAY-tsuhl. It is the German version of gnocchi, the dough being typically sqeezed through the holes in a colander into a pot of boiling water and served with bread crumbs and meat in gravy. We ended up rolling the dough into tiny noodles (the dough was too sticky to push through the colander) and passing on the bread crumbs. But the meatballs and sauce were good!
I have much more to post, but I figured this was enough for today!

Surgery and aftermath
so! yesterday i underwent oral surgery, which included the removal of all 4 wisdom teeth, a small piece of bone removed near the former site of one wisdom tooth, and the grafting of that piece to an area that needed more bone tissue. needless to say, i am a littel swollen, but only in the areas related to the bone graft. my "wisdom holes" are not swelling visibly, which is a blessing. however, since both areas involved in the bone graft are on my right side, i'm only half a chipmunk, lol. :D
i did promise to blog on music and spirituality the next time (only this time i'm one-handed because my left is holding an ice pack to my face). well, as some may know, i've been working on a couple musical pieces, one of which was just sung at church! i updated and added to some of the text, "behold a stranger at the door," by joseph grigg (grieg), and then wrote a new musical setting for it. after hearing it sung, though, i think it could use a little more tweaking. as of now i am working on a new ladies' three-part setting of "love lifted me," althoug i'm kinda stuck :) hopfully it will be finished soon. we'll see!
lately, i've been reading in jeremiah (in my french bible--m. loach you should be very proud :) it's interesting to see how, though God is jutified in His wrath against the children of Israel, He os still willing to forgive them. how often do we "get on God's bad side," and yet He chooses to love and forgive us (though chastening may come as well). being slightly disabled now due to my surgery, it is a blessing to know that God in His mercy is still at my side and will care for me through all my trials.
if you could remember to pray for my dad and me (and my sister katy, too) as we search for jobs. not too many people hire for just summertime, and up here in massachusetts, the job market isn't so hot anyways. it is necessary that i find a job if i intend to return to school in the fall, so please pray that, if it be God's will, i find a job.
thanks, and signing off . . . dwg

My first blog post
so! who, what, when, where, why, and how are the questions i will endeavor to answer in this my very first post on my new blog. my name is dave galvin (aka davey, dahv, galvy, triple sticks, and many others), and as you can see in "a short bio," i am a young man who enjoys music very much, who is a born-again christian, and who would like to try blogging. what will i be posting? well, hopefully you can look forward to short blurbs on what i've been learning about my God, what i'm working on music-wise, and maybe even some comments on what's been happening in my life or what i think about current events. i hope to post once or twice a week, depending on my schedule. where? umm . . . right here! why did i decide to start blogging with Blogger? well, i just recently began using a new browser--Flock--for FaceBook, Twitter, and blogging, and Blogger looked like a good site to blog on that was supported by Flock. how do i plan on posting these blurbs every week? good question! we'll find out!
this is kind of a double-post, i guess, since i introduced my blog first. but i also want to post something regular, so here it is :) tomorrow i am scheduled to have my wisdom teeth out at 9 a.m., along with a bone or tissue graft in the front of my mouth. if you think of it, please pray that all goes well and that there will be no complications.
sorry, but nothing on music or spirituality today. next time i will post an update on my oral condition and maybe some other things.
